Owate lies in the small town of Kokonoe in the northern half of the island of Kyushu, about 2hours by car from Fukuoka. The closed international airport is also in Fukuoka, as well as a Shinkansen stop. The famous spa town Beppu is about 1 hour away by car.
Kokonoe is situated right at the entrance to “Aso Kuju Nationalpark”. Mount Aso is the largest volcano in Japan; he has the world’s largest caldera and a famous tourist spot.
